Create Grading Periods

Grade Center allows you to organize your grades by grading periods, such as fall or spring semesters. Grading Periods are not defined by default and if you want to use grading periods, you must create your own.


Follow these steps to create a grading period:

1. In the Grade Center, click the Action Link button next to Manage in the Action Bar. Click the Grading Periods link.

2. The Grading Periods page will appear. Click the Add Grading Period button to create your grading periods.

3. The Add Grading Period page will appear. Enter the name of the grading period and set its date range if desire. Click the Submit button when done.

4. You will return to the Grading Periods page. The new grading period that you have just created will be displayed here. Click the OK button when done.


5. You will return to the Grade Center. You can either assign the new grading period to the grade column in the Add Grade Column page while you are creating a manually added column. (Once you have created your grading period, a new Grading Period drop-down list box will be added under the Dates section in the Add Grade Column page. Or, you can change the grading period of a grade item by following the steps below.

Follow these steps to modify a grading period:

1. In the Grade Center, click the Action Link button next to Manage in the Action Bar. Click the Organize Grade Center link.

2. The Organize Grade Center page will appear. The grading periods that you have created will be shown on this page as new sections. Click to select the grade items that you want to modify their grading periods by clicking on the checkboxes. Click the Action Link next to Modify Grading Period. Choose desired grading period from the drop down menu. The grade items will be moved to be under the assigned grading period section. Click the + sign next to the grading period to view the grade items. Click the Submit button when done.

2. Click the Action Link next to the Current View: (current Smart View) and click to choose the desired grading periods from the drop down menu. The grades will be displayed for the selected grading period. You can make the current view the default view, the view that will be displayed when you first enter the Grade Center, by clicking the Set as Default button.
