Does BlackBoard have a Blog feature?

Jump to: navigation, search

Yes. You can use the "Blog Tool" feature (also called Journal) to create one or several blogs within your course site. You can create a blog for the whole course to read or post to (available by default under course tools), or separate blogs for individuals or group projects in any Blackboard content area. You may also choose to keep any blog private within your Blackboard course, or you can enable a public RSS feed which can be read using an RSS aggregator outside of Blackboard. It is easy to add images, audio and video to the blog posts.

You can create two types of wikis or team sites in Blackboard: a wiki for the entire class is available in the Tools are or can be linked from the navigation menu; multiple wikis for individual or group projects can be added within any Blackboard content area.

Create a blog linked from the navigation menu:

  1. Open the control panel
  2. Select manage course menu
  3. Add a Tool Link
  4. Select the tool Blog Tool
  5. Next, enter the name you wish students to see on the navigation menu (i.e. "blog", "class writing project")
  6. Click the Submit button

Create a blog linked from a content area:

  1. Open the control panel
  2. Select the content area you wish to put the blog in
  3. Find the Select tool on the right side of the gray bar toward the top of your Blackboard window.
  4. Select the tool Blog
  5. Click the go button
  6. A new page comes up, asking a number of questions about your site, including who should have access. Answer the questions as desired.
  7. Click the Submit button

This feature is available from a special add-on to Blackboard, made by Learning Objects. For more information and instructions, see Learning Object's Quick Start Guides orJournal LX Instructor Guide for more information.
