How can I export or archive the content of a discussion board forum?

Make a forum unavailable:

  • Enter the Discussion Board forum and view the list of threads
  • Check the thread(s) you wish to hide from student view
  • In the upper right menu Change Status to: Unavailable or Hidden, and click GO
  • You can show the Published, Unavailable or Hidden threads in the forum using the Display pull down menu
  • You can return any unavailable or hidden thread back to Published status by repeating the steps above


COPY: To copy a discussion from one course to another

  • Form a course export (Control Panel > Export Course) containing only the Discussion Board
  • Save the Export file to your desktop
  • Import the .zip package (Control Panel > Import Package) in your new course


EXPORT TEXT: To copy the text of discussion board posts within a discussion board forum into a text editor on your computer

  • 1) Enter the Forum
  • Check the individual threads you wish to collect, or select all
  • Click 'Select All'
  • Click 'Collect' to display the text for selected posts
  • Select all (control A or command A) and copy the text
  • Paste the text into a simple text editor such as Notepad or TextEdit
