Upload Grades to Grade Center
From BbWiki
You can upload Excel spreadsheet in csv format to the Blackboard Grade Center. You must make sure that all your students are in both the Excel spreadsheet and in the Blackboard Grade Center. The first column of the Excel spreadsheet must contain the student’s log-in name (for example, bmc.user, hc.user or sc.user) in the Blackboard Grade Center.
Follow these steps to upload grades from Excel to the Grade Center:
1. Prepare the Excel spreadsheet for uploading by:
a. Change the first column header name to be the Blackboard username.
b. Make sure that the username for each student is identical to his/her Blackboard log in username. (Downloading the existing Grade Center is the easiest way to get this column.)
c. Delete any columns that are not grades that you want to upload.
d. Save the file as csv (comma delimited) file.
2. In the Grade Center, click the Action Link button next to Manage in the Action Bar. Click the Upload link.
3. The Upload Grades page will appear. Click the Browse button to select the csv file in step 1 above. The name of the file will be shown in the text box. Click the Submit button when done.
4. If your csv file format is set up correctly, you will see a page similar to the following. Select the grade items that you want to upload. Click the Submit button when done.
5. You will return to the Grade Center. At the top of the Grade Center, you will see how many grades have been uploaded and what columns have been added. If necessary, scroll to see the grade columns that have been added at the far right side of the Grade Center.
NOTE: All the columns that are uploaded are text and they will not be included in the grade calculation. Also, the total points possible for these columns are set to be 0. You need to click the Action Link button next to the column header and click the Modify Column link. Set primary display to be numeric if you want the values to be included. Set the total points possible.
6. Repeat steps above for every column that is uploaded to the Grade Center.
7. The Modify Column page will appear. Change the Primary Display and Points Possible options. Set any other desired options. Click the Submit button when done.
Notes:
Instead of uploading the Excel spreadsheet grades as new grade columns added to the Grade Center, you can also upload the grades into an existing Grade Center column and update the grades of that grade item. You will need to label the grade column header in the csv file with the Grade Center column ID. However, the column name you see in the Grade Center is not the column ID. In order to find out the column ID, you must download the Blackboard Grade Center. Click the Download Grades from the Grade Center to Excel link here for learn how to download the Grade Center. Locate the desired column ID from the downloaded Grade Center file and change the corresponding column header in the csv file to the ID.
