Team Action Potential Project Proposal

Our team will be modeling a mammalian nerve cell with SolidWorks and subsequently printing the model by using the 3D printer. Cellular organelles will be shown in a cut-out section of the neuron. Additionally, we hope to demonstrate the neuron's main function - the action potential. We will use one of two methods to accomplish this; either we will animate the model digitally to show the movement of ions, or we will incorporate a sequence of lights (LED's) to visualize the signal's journey across the cell.

Potential supplies needed:

  • Solidworks
  • 3D Printer
  • LED Lights
  • Battery or power source
  • E5 Shield or other device to sequence lights
  • Lots of help from Professor Cheever
