It is true that students are able to achieve a certain grade just by cramming information. Unfortunately, cramming does not provide for long-term information retention, an aspect which is essential in subjects like economics where classes are based upon previously learned information. Rather than cram, attempt to space out studying sessions. Study for an hour one night, a little bit longer over the weekend, and once again next week. By constantly returning back to material, students are able to better recall information without having to increase overall study time. According to Dr. Kornell of Williams College, “The idea is that forgetting is the friend of learning...When you forget something, it allows you to relearn, and do so effectively, the next time you see it.”
Suggestions: Begin to study for exams at least two weeks before test day in order to avoid intense cramming.
