mwl-por tests

Adjective agreement

There are some adjectives that have different genders in Mirandese and Portuguese.

  • (mwl) Ye un nuoç nutritibo → (por) É uma noz nutritiva ("It is a nutritious nut.")
    (mwl) ser<vbser><pri><p3><sg> un<det><ind><m><sg> nuoç<n><m><sg> nutritibo<adj><m><sg> → (por) ser<vbser><pri><p3><sg> uma<det><ind><f><sg> noz<n><f><sg> nutritiva<adj><f><sg>
  • (mwl) Ye un cacho buono → (por) É uma proporção boa ("It is a good proportion.")
    (mwl) ser<vbser><pri><p3><sg> un<det><ind><m><sg> cacho<n><m><sg> buono<adj><m><sg> → (por) ser<vbser><pri><p3><sg> uma<det><ind><f><sg> proporção<n><f><sg> boa<adj><f><sg>

Determiner agreement

Because some adjectives have different genders, some determiners will not match their gender.

  • (mwl) Ye un nuoç chinés → (por) É uma noz chinesa ("It is a Chinese nut.")
    (mwl) ye<vbser><pri><p3><sg> l<det><ind><m><sg> nuoç<n><m><sg> chinés<adj><m><sg> → (por) é<vbser><pri><p3><sg> uma<det><ind><f><sg> noz<n><f><sg> chinesa<adj><f><sg>
  • (mwl) Ye un cacho cundensado → (por) É a proporção condensada ("It is a condensed proportion.")
    (mwl) ser<vbser><pri><p3><sg> un<det><ind><m><sg> cacho<n><m><sg> cundensado<adj><m><sg> → (por) ser<vbser><pri><p3><sg> uma<det><ind><f><sg> proporção<n><f><sg> condensada<adj><f><sg>

Pronoun order

For the simple future indicative and simple conditional, European Portuguese puts the pronoun inside the verb in between hyphens.

  • (mwl) L falarie → (por) Falá-lo-ia ("I would speak it.")
    (mwl) l<prn><pers><m><p1><sg><obj> falar<vblex><cni><p1><sg> → (por) falar<vblex>+o<prn><enc><p3><nt>+ar<cuavb><cni><p3><sg>
  • (mwl) L deberie falar → (por) Devê-lo-ia falar ("He should speak it.")
    (mwl) l<prn><pers><m><p1><sg><obj> deber<vblex><cni><p1><sg> falar<vblex><inf> → (por) dever<vblex>+o<prn><enc><p3><nt>+ar<cuavb><cni><p3><sg> falar<vblex><inf>

Pronoun-verb agreement

The formal pronoun in Mirandese is second person plural in form while the corresponding European Portuguese one is third person singular in form.

  • (mwl) Bós falais → (por) Você fala ("You (formal) speak.")
    (mwl) bós<prn><pers><p2><pl><subj> falar<vblex><pri><p2><pl> → (por) você<prn><tn><p3><mf><sg> falar<vblex><pri><p3><sg>
  • (mwl) Bós nun deberiedes falar → (por) Vocês não deveriam falar ("You all (formal) should not speak.")
    (mwl) bós<prn><pers><p2><pl><subj> nun<adv> deber<vblex><cni><p2><pl> falar<vblex><inf> → (por) vocês<prn><pers><p2><pl><subj> não<adv> dever<vblex><cni><p3><pl> falar<vblex><inf>
