I'd probably want to work with someone with more experience in linguistics, as I have a fair bit of computer experience but am fairly lost when it comes to the language side of things.
Languages I might want to work with:
Alemannisch
- ISO code:
gsw - Morphological typology: Mostly fairly similar to German but I don't have enough expertise to interpret the Wikipedia articles on this
- Speakers: About 5-10 million
- Mostly in Switzerland, Lichtenstein, and southern Germany
- Also, spoken by some Amish communities in the United States, mostly in Indiana
- Also, in a small town in Venezuela (Colonia Tovar) founded in 1843 by German immigrants[4]
- Status: Categorized as 5 ("developing") by Ethnologue ("in vigorous use, with literature in a standardized form being used by some though this is not yet widespread or sustainable.")
- In very widespread use in Switzerland and Lichtenstein but endangered elsewhere
- Boundaries, categorization, etc. are somewhat nebulous, as while Swiss-German is not mutually intelligible with Standard German, speakers exist all along the dialect continuum
- Orthography: Swiss-German speakers in Switzerland use Standard German and/or Swiss Standard German for formal occasions, school instruction, all formal writing; hence, no defined orthography exists for Swiss-German
- Text availability: Swiss-German/Alemannisch Wikipedia exists[5], and it can be downloaded here: https://dumps.wikimedia.org/alswiki/20220120/
Marshallese
- ISO code:
mah - Morphological typology: I don't have enough expertise to interpret the Wikipedia articles on this
- Speakers: about 50,000-60,000, mostly in the Marshall Islands
- Status: National language of the Marshall Islands
- Orthography: Latin script; two competing orthographies (one introduced by missionaries, one more recent); some problems with Unicode display of diacritics in some fonts
- Text availability: Fairly easy to find some text; Bible translations available[8]
