Justification
As of 2022, Munsee (Huluníixsuwaakan) only has one fluent speaker (Dianne Snake), so we wanted to create a keyboard layout that would be as accessible as possible. Basing our layout on the Munsee and Unami layouts by LanguageGeek, we created a Munsee keyboard layout that also supported Unami, a closely related language, and English.
Installation Instructions
- Clone the keyboard layout from the repository linked above by copying the ssh url and pasting it on the command line after
git clone - Copy the layout file into ~/.m17n.d/
- To do this, type in
cp umu.mim ~/.m17n.dinto the command line.
- To do this, type in
- Go to IBUS settings, select the English (US, alt., intl.)
- This allows the altgr layer to be accessed
- Add/Enable the new Munsee layout through IBUS
- You may need restart IBUS so that the new layout appears
- You can search for the Munsee layout by name, ISO code
umu, or under 'other'
