Japhug/Japhug and English/Contrastive Grammar
From LING073
- For clauses with transitive verbs, in Japhug the object generally precedes the verb (and follows the subject). In English however the object follows the verb.
- Japhug generally uses postpositions, whereas English uses prepositions.
- Japhug uses affixes to express many things that would be expressed using separate words in English. For example: the negation prefix, causative prefixes on verbs; or the single/dual/plural suffixes on verbs (which can obviate an explicit object).
