Bill Dengler and I are thinking of working together. If that doesn't work out, I'm down to work with pretty much whoever.

Mixe
Mixe refers to a group of Mixe–Zoquean languages spoken in Oaxaca, Mexico. On the 2020 Mexico census, 140,000 people reported their language as "Mixe", though some of those folks may have spoken related varieties spoken in Veracruz, which I'm considering as distinct. The four varieties of Mixe, excluding those Veracruzean varieties, are North Highland (Totontepec), South Highland (Tlahuitoltepec), Midland, and Lowland Mixe.
Totontepec (ISO: mto) is, according to Ethnologue, the most distinct of these varieties [1]. It has about 5,500 speakers and is considered a Developing (language status 5) language. Tlahuitoltepec (ISO: mxp) is more widely spoken, with about 17,000 speakers [2]. Its language status is 6a (vigorous).
Morphological Typology
Primarily SOV (Ethnologue also lists VOS for Tlahuitoltepec).
Written with Latin script.
Speakers likely also speak Spanish. Some also speak Zapotec or Chinantec varieties. Members of local Mixe communities have been working on language maintenance efforts.

Austrian Academy of Sciences: Mixe
Anna Kondic's book on Mixe narratives. Presents texts in Mixe and includes English and Spanish translations, audio recordings, and video recordings. This would be an invaluable resource, but I'm not sure how to find it.
