Initial Evaluation of Ambiguity

The initial ambiguity of the corpus is 2211/890 = 2.484. It is worth noting both that some of these come from overgeneration of forms, as the generator still generates a fair number of incorrect forms; due to the complexity of the morphology it has been difficult to eliminate all these errors. Furthermore, a large portion of the ambiguity is true ambiguity, which can be resolved only by pragmatic context, such as forms of certain verbs which are ambiguous between certain past and future readings. Such situations are in fact rather common in Gĩkũyũ given the number of different possible morphemes on verbs.
