Amis/Keyboard
From LING073
Existing Resources
- A chart of the Amis language alphabet, with vowels, consonants, and pronunciation can be found here: https://omniglot.com/writing/amis.htm
- There is also an Amis - Taiwanese (indigenous) keyboard layout available on IBUS. The keyboard seems to be nearly identical to an international English layout. The notable change is that the apostrophe "'" has been replaced with the glottal stop "ʼ", and the regular apostrophe is moved to the ALTGR case.
- Web searches did not turn up with any other keyboard resources for the Amis language.
Justification
- Using the existing keyboard layout from IBUS makes sense because apart from "ʼ", there are not any characters in the Amis language that do not appear in English. The layout will be very easy for us to get used to as we develop tools in LING 073.
- Transcriptional (pronunciation) tools might be useful for the purposes of development in this class, but those would not be used by the community of Amis speaking people.
