Burushaski
Basic Information
Burushaski (bsk) is spoken by 96,800 individuals in parts of northern Pakistan. Ethnologue gives it the status 6a, Vigorous, and it is gaining users. According to the Burushaski Language Documentation Project, the Burushaski is mostly spoken rather than written, although it does have both an Arabic and a Roman orthography. Burushaski is considered a linguistic isolate, and appears to be either agglutinative or fusional based on the linguistic analysis provided. [2]
Resources
A number of basic wordlists, recordings, and linguistically analyzed Roman-alphabet transcriptions and translations of stories and anecdotes are available through the Language Documentation Project [3]. The same group also provides a grammatical sketch for the language.
