I would like to work with Erick because they approached me about working on a language spoken in Latin America, which is what I was hoping to do as well.

Papiamento/Papiamentu

Morphological Typology

I was unable to find what morphological typology Papiamento belongs to. I researched the different categories, and based on examples of written Papiamento and on the fact that its words are mostly derived from Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch, I would say Papiamento is a fusional language.

Ethnologue's Description of Papiamento's Typology

Maximum number of prefixes, 2; word order distinguishes subjects, objects, indirect objects; affixes indicate case of noun phrases; verb affixes mark person, number, gender of subject, object, other noun phrase—not obligatory; passives; causatives; comparatives; CVC.[1]

Kaingang/Caingang

Morphological Typology

Again, I was unable to find explicitly what the morphological typology of Kaingang is. I believe it is agglutinative, but I'm not entirely sure.

  • Most common word patterns in Kaingang are cvcv (35%).[4]
  • 90% of Kaingang words are monosyllabic or bisyllabic.[5]

Basic Information

  • ISO 639-3: kgp[6]
  • Number of speakers: 28,000[7]
  • Spoken in: Southern Brazil and Southeast Brazil[8]
  • Speakers are likely to also know: Most in some villages also use Portuguese[9]

Sranan Tongo/Taki Taki

Morphological Typology

Sranan Tongo is very similar to English. I haven't been able to find definitely what category it falls under, but because of its similarity to English, I would say it is kind of analytical, kind of fusional like English.

  • Number of speakers: 715,700 (as L1: 415,700; as L2: 300,000).[13]
