Oneida

Typology

Oneida is polysynthetic which means that words are comprised of many morphemes.[1] In addition, Oneida has substantial noun incorporation and derivational and inflectional suffixes. [2]

Basic Information

[one] There are an estimated 67 native speakers of Oneida as of 2016. Members of the Oneida tribe live in upstate New York, Wisconsin, and Ontario. The majority who speak Oneida use it as a secondary language.[3] Although there are very few speakers, its speakers' influence has led to the creation of numerous websites aimed at providing resources such as dictionaries, recordings, and lesson plans to people interested in learning or teaching the language. These video and audio recordings were collected in the early twentieth century.[4] The standard orthography is based on a modified Latin script.

Saterland Frisian

Typology

Saterland Frisian is fusional and analytic.[7]

Basic Information

[stq] Saterland Frisian is the last living dialect of the East Frisian language. Around 2,000 out of 10,000 people living in Saterland speak Saterland Frisian.[8] Ethnologue considers Saterland Frisian to be shifting (7) as the language is not transmitted from the child-bearing generation to the children.[9]. Most speakers are middle-aged or older and so the vitality of the language is severely at risk. Saterland Frisian's orthography uses the Latin script (German Alphabet).

Resources

There are almost 4,000 content pages in wikipedia written in Saterland Frisian.[10]
