Differences between xal and jdt

  • There are more noun cases in xal

Things to look for

  • possession / possessive suffixes vs pronouns
  • genitive constructions in general: 's / of
  • cases versus prepositions
  • SVO versus SOV

jdt-xal Tests

  • jdt uses negative prefix to make a noun negative, xal does not

this isn't productive, and shouldn't really be implemented in the transducer

  • (jdt) битоб → (xal) саваго "impatience"
    (jdt) битоб<n><neg> → (xal) саваго<n>
  • The use of adverbs vs. articles is different between the languages
  • The use of numbers is different between languages

figure out what's going on here

  • (jdt) е чор руз → (xal) Эн дөрвдгч өдрнь "a fourth day"
    (jdt) е<adv> чор<num> руз<n> → (xal) Эн <n> дөрвдгч <num><ord> өдрнь<n><px3sp>
  • The use of classifiers vs. prepositions is different

it's not clear that this is a good translation

  • (jdt) е жуьфд журубьо → (xal) паре өөмсн "a couple of socks"
    (jdt) е<art> жуьфд<class> журубьо<n><pl> → (xal) паре<conj> өөмсн<n><pl>

xal-jdt Tests

  • (xal) саваго → (jdt) битоб "impatience"
    (xal) саваго<n> → (jdt) битоб<n><neg>
  • (xal) Эн дөрвдгч өдрнь → (jdt) е чор руз "a fourth day"
    (xal) Эн <n> дөрвдгч <num><ord> өдрнь<n><px3sp> → (jdt) е<adv> чор<num> руз<n>
  • (xal) паре өөмсн → (jdt) е жуьфд журубьо "a couple of socks"
    (xal) паре<conj> өөмсн<n><pl> → (jdt) е<art> жуьфд<class> журубьо<n><pl>
